Service exchange: excellent proofreading/editing/copy writing for glittering sales help.

Is anyone interested in exploring a service exchange?

I'd happily proofread/edit/write for you, in return for your sales magnificence (obviously there'd be commission on any work you bring to the business or regular clients you secure as well).

Way to feel insignificant!

How many websites are there? How many people actually use the internet?

Sometimes, tapping away at my laptop I feel that, although I know the internet is incredibly powerful and has loads of information available at my fingertips, I am part of a sub-set that really uses it as part of our every-day lives.

LinkedIn

Does anyone else make use of LinkedIn?

I'm beginning to find it fairly useful. Something that I really enjoy is the lack of hard-sell. Of course there is a bit of it, but for the most part members follow a polite etiquette whereby you build a professional, online relationship with those who may be interested in your services at some point in time, or who may have services of interest to you. When the opportune moment arises you mention your abilities or business that they may find useful.  Members mainly share ideas, discuss and learn from other like-minded professionals.

US and UK business letters

You'd think writing a business letter would be pretty much the same globally. Au contraire!

The differences between UK and US seem quite significant.

Initially the UK and US are divided with the return address: in the UK it goes on the right, whereas in the US it can either go on the left or the right.

The recipient's address is left-aligned in both countries (phew, we agree on something!)

What are your daily 'must-do's?

After a couple of months of procrastination, and thanks to a chicken-pox-ridden family, I've finally snuggled myself in for a few hours of writing my business plan of attack for the days, weeks and months of this year.

For some reason the apparent enormity of this particular task has really put me off, despite being almost worryingly organised in all other areas of my life.

How do you remain gender neutral in your business communications?

Every day we write to a broad audience and while it's fine in a fictional piece of work to be gender-specific, in our business communications we often have to be more general. And, using the combination "him/her" is cumbersome.

New generation planner

Before visiting the gym this morning, I popped into the paper-shop downstairs to have a quick flick through their planner options again ... and at the bottom of the pile I found this incredibly little innovation.

I’d like your help. Pretty please - with a cherry on top!

As you may or may not know, English Pro is just a bumbling infant at the moment and I’m working hard to raise it into a successful, happy cyber-sibling to my own sprogs.

All parents experience sleepless nights, uncertainty and downright confusion in this journey and here I am having one of those moments.
