Are you a woman running your own business who is...

  • wanting to cut through the overwhelm and get real answers on how best to promote your business?
  • looking for a friendly place to connect with other self-employed women?
  • or a marketing / business success expert wanting to share your expertise with fellow women business owners?

Then this site is for you!

It's been a long time but I am back

Hello and apologies for being away for so long and not posting or contributing. Sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day. As some of you know I run my own retail website selling womens shoes.

But I  have been spending all my time on SEO. (Search Engine Optimization)

It seems to be one of those things that everyone has an opinion on and every SEO expert has a different opinion as to how it should be done - and their way is always the best

In the end I decided to choose to do what sounded logical and sensible and am now the proud owner of a Google ranking of 2 !

There seem to be three main things that can help optimise a website:

1. Avoid duplicate content - I had been using my suppliers descriptions and so had all of his other customers - Google filters duplicate content out. So I rewrote all my descriptions so they were unique.

2. Link to other relevant sites but make they have a page rank higher  than yours.

3. Long tail keywords - thinking about how people search for shoes. do they type 'women's shoes' or do they type  '  cute pair of flat boots in brown ' ? If you can find out how people search and what they type into search engines you have a far better chance of them finding your site  based on those keywords.

My other half thinks I have become a bit of an anorak just lately. But my unique visits have increased by lots and I have this google ranking. The site looks different as well.

Very soon sales will be flooding in - that is the plan.

I don't know if anything I have said is of help or inspiration to any one but thanks for reading.

Yahoo!

Hey that's fab news. Congratulations for sticking at it, and very many thanks for sharing the points you found useful.

As you say everyone has a diffent opinion about how best to SEO, having someone who's actually done it, for their own business, is motivating and inspiring.

Well done

May I add my ongratulations on doing what can be a very time consuming job.  You do need to be dedicated and you have proved if you are you get your just desserts.  now of course you must n't let it go.....so add in more web pages with lots of delicious keyword conscious content.

I was very excited when I got to page 2 in google for constructive feedback!

Best Wishes

Charlotte
