I knew it would happen - I have started to recieve telemarketing calls on my mobile regarding my website Put Your Foot In It
The bloke on the phone said i was obviously using a cheap template company and was I making any money from it ?. I was slightly bemused - I have just revamped my site and was feeling very proud of it. He said I should think about Harrods and a backstreet kebab shop - my website is closer to the kebab shop than to Harrods.
Now I am under no illusions here - I am not a preffessional web designer but to say that I was slightly crestfallen after that call was an understatement to say the least.
I am a telemarketer my self so I don't have a problem with people calling me up but purleeeeze give me a break and don't ruin my entire day.
The moral being if you can't say anything nice then.....................

I can't imagine he's going to be an enormously successful telemarketer if he carries on like that!
What exactly was his problem with your site? I think you've done a pretty good job considering it's not your profession.
Don't let the blighters get you down. If they chose to undermine your confidence just know you're the better person -- after all you're working for yourself, building your own business and future WITHOUT feeling the need to belittle others on the way.

Your site is looking great, and is well-designed where it matters for an ecommerce site - great images, good descriptions, and easy to use.

It is hard to believe
I find it so hard to believe that any sales person thinks that knocking the competitor whether it is you or a company you employ is going to work. I teach people how to give feedback and know that if feedback isn't constructive or helpful it can never have any benefit to the person receiving it. If it isn't given in the spirit of helping some one learn or develop what is its purpose? . Sounds like this guy was taking his bad day out on you.......nothing more.
Shouldn't you name him and or his company so we can all be aware?

He was obviously having a bad day, and took it out on you.
Everyone has a different way they like to do things and think. There are some increditably professional "all singing & dancing" sites, that I hate..... Too squeaky clean and completely impersonal. I would think that he thought them nearer Harrods - then then I don't shop there either so why should it matter!
